‘Penny Dreadful’ Fans Hope To See Eva Green Back In ‘City Of Angels’

Showtime revives “Penny Dreadful” through its sequel, “City Of Angels,” which stars Daniel Zovatto as Detective Tiago Vega. Actor Rory Kinnear will return to the series as Dr. Peter Craft, but will fans see Eva Green’s Vanessa Ides in the revival series too?

After three seasons, star-studded gothic show “Penny Dreadful” finally ended in 2016. In the final episode, Josh Hartnett’s Ethan Chandler shot Vanessa, who died for the greater good. Many fans found the finale ending unsatisfying and forced, so everyone was surprised when Showtime greenlit “City Of Angels.”

“Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels” signed up stars Natalie Dormer, Daniel Zovatto, Adriana Barraza, Jessica Garza, Johnathan Nieves and Nathan Lane. Kinnear is reported to be the latest addition to the cast and will play the role of Dr. Peter Craft. Kinnear played as The Creator in the first series.

In the sequel, Dr. Craft will be the head of an organization that was formed to keep the United States away from the threats of European war. The character also works as a successful pediatrician.

The original show was set in Victoria-era London. but the sequel will take place in 1930s Los Angeles. “Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels” will highlight LAPD Vega’s investigation of a murder case and the possible involvement of a shapeshifting demo, to be portrayed by Dormer. Vega, his family and his partner (Lane) will find themselves battling supernatural forces.

The sequel looks promising, and the anticipation builds as more details about the show unfold one by one. But fans are hoping to see Vanessa return to the series as well. A “Penny Dreadful” series is not one if it’s without Green’s titular character. Fans are hopeful that Vanessa will appear at least as a flashback or ghost in the sequel.

But others argue that an appearance from Green is unlikely. A fan explained that “Penny Dreadful” abruptly concluded because the actress wanted out of the series and allegedly hated shooting in Ireland, where the series was filmed. On top of it, the show was not as massive as it was expected to be in terms of ratings. However, reviews were good.

The original show’s creator, John Logan, will serve as the writer and executive producer for “Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels.” Michael Aguilar will also executively produce, while Paco Cabezas will direct several episodes of the series.
