Prince Charles managed to cover up his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles from Princess Diana even though the latter already had growing suspicions about it. In royal author Andrew Morton’s book “Diana: Her True Story,” he said that Prince Charles asked his staff to help hide his relationship with Camilla. Prince Charles’ bodyguard was also forced to accompany him on his illicit nighttime visits to the Duchess of Cornwall.

While the future king is with his mistress, Prince Charles’ chef and butler were instructed to cook dinner even though they were also aware that he won’t come home just in time to eat with his wife. Prince Charles’ valet was also instructed to mark up the television listings guide to make it seem as though he spent the night at home watching TV.

And when Prince Charles broke his arm in a polo accident, his staff tracked the information from police radios to know where Princess Diana was. Camilla was in the hospital with Prince Charles, and they had to make sure that she would be out of the premises when Princess Diana arrives.

According to Morton, Prince Charles’ staff felt sick due to their boss’ deception, and they all predicted that his marriage to the Princess of Wales wouldn’t last. Years later, Prince Charles admitted to having an affair with Camilla, but he only gave the admission two years after he separated from his wife.

In 1996, Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s divorce was finalized, and they went their separate ways for good. However, Princess Diana was unable to enjoy her time away from the royal family because she passed away following a fatal car crash in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997.

At that time, Princess Diana was already in a relationship with Dodi Al Fayed, who also passed away following the same accident.

Prince Charles moved on with his life for good, and he decided to wed Camilla in a civil ceremony in 2005. Until today, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall are still happily married. They are also gearing up for bigger roles when they become king and queen or queen consort in the coming years.
