Princess Diana has influenced her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, in a number of ways. But there is one admirable quality that she made sure her eldest child would have.

Milly Haddrick, a journalist for New Idea, said that Princess Diana’s streak for helping others has been passed on to the Duke of Cambridge. This was proven when the dad of three visited New Zealand to meet with the families of those who were affected by the Christchurch shooting.

Weeks after a gunman opened fire on two mosques in New Zealand, it was announced that Prince William would travel to the country on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II. And it was evident that his royal duty is very important to him because he flew out of London on the day of Prince Louis’ first birthday.

“New Zealand also has a great affection for the Duke and the royal family,” a statement from the palace read. “It was very much the Duke’s decision to come to New Zealand and he wanted to do something and not just something reactive. He worked with the country’s Prime Minister on the visit and the timing. It was decided that doing the trip a month after the attacks would give it a bit of a legacy,” the statement added.

Prince William also gave a touching speech during his trip last week. While there, he talked about his grief following the death of Princess Diana on Aug. 31, 1997. Kate Middleton’s husband also managed to remind the public of his mother’s passion for supporting people through tough times.

“A terrorist attempt to sow division and hatred in a place that stands for togetherness and selflessness,” Prince William said. “He thought he could redefine what his space was. I am here to help you show the world that he failed,” he added.

Prince William has returned to London after his two-day engagement. He and his wife have also taken time out of their busy schedule to visit Meghan Markle and Prince Harry at Frogmore Cottage. The trip heightened speculation that the Duchess of Sussex has already given birth.
