A match that was expected to be entertaining right from the start turned into an absolute route in the first leg of the Champions League semis between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid.

Led by four goals from the always-dangerous Robert Lewandowski, Dortmund won the opening match in convincing fashion, 4-1.

The second leg of this semifinal series will take place on Tuesday, April 30 at 2:45 p.m., EDT. The contest will air on both the FOX Soccer Channel and FOX Deportes television. A live stream will also be available online through Fox Soccer 2 Go.

The opening leg of the semifinal never had the chance to become a classic Champions League battle.

Scoring in the eighth minute of the opening half, Lewandowski set the early tone for the match by letting Real Madrid know Dortmund was for real. A perfect cross from Mario Gotze to Lewandowski opened the scoring for Dortmund, whose only Champions League title came in 1997.

Goals at the 50 and 55-minute marks, once again for Lewandowski, put Dortmund up 3-1 and gave them loads of confidence moving forward.

"We have taken only the first step, but of course we are happy," the 24-year-old Lewandowski said to reporters after the win. "I am pleased with the four goals but now we want to reach the final."

Lewandowski would notch another goal in the 67th-minute, making him the only player in Champions League semifinal history to score four goals in one game. With seven total shots on goal as a club, Lewandowski was able to connect on four for goals.

Not a bad start for a Dortmund team looking to shift the balance of power away from traditional dominators like Madrid and Barcelona.

Giving themselves a cushion with a 4-1 victory in the first leg of the semifinals, Borussia Dortmund can go out and play with significant confidence Tuesday knowing they're only one more strong performance away from returning to the final.

The winner of this semi will take on the winner of the Barcelona Vs. Bayern Munich semifinal. Munich took the opening leg of that series 4-0.

Be sure to tune into the FOX Soccer Channel and the FOX Deportes network for the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, April 30 at 2:45 p.m., EDT.

If you're unable to get in front of a television, the game will stream online through FOX Soccer 2 Go.
