Salma Hayek Heritage: Actress Says She's Not Mexican!

Turns out, Salma Hayek is only Mexican when she wants to be. In 2012, the Mexican born actress, caused some controversy during an interview with Vogue Magazine in Germany. “I hardly remember what it is like to be a Mexican” were the words used by Hayek according to the renowned fashion publication.

The now Mrs. Pinault, released a press communicate immediately after where she stated the following: “I have tried to represent my Mexican roots out loud and proud, I feel sadden because my words were misinterpreted.”

In 2013, during an interview with David Letterman, the Veracruz native had some trouble remembering the Mexican anthem, but had no problem when she was requested to sing the American anthem. She even stood up and put her hand on her chest while she chanted along.

Recently, Hayek has been taking advantage of the wonders of Instagram and she has been sharing some cultural pictures about México, she even posted a video of her eating a “Chapulín,”a delicacy from Oaxaca, MX.

The actress seems to be very aware of her background on social media, she has also commented that she’s been trying to keep her daughter Valentina immersed in all three cultures: Mexican, American, and French. However, a couple of days ago when she was honored with a “W” award from the hands of Letizia, Queen of Spain, Hayek commented that her blood was divided, and that she was 50% Spanish, and 50% Lebanese.

We are not sure if the interpreter of “Frida Kahlo” meant that her ancestors came from those backgrounds which means, of course, that she has Spanish and Lebanese blood running through her veins as well. But what we do know for sure, is that Salma Hayek was born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, México, which means she was born a Mexican.
