Shawn Mendes double tapped an image of rumored ex-flame Hailey Baldwin on Justin Bieber’s Instagram account, and it was quick to spark a social media firestorm. But before fans could ever make a big deal out of that Instagram “like,” Bieber shut things down by saying his wife and Mendes are just friends.

On Wednesday, the male singer-songwriter gushed over his beautiful 22-year-old wife by posting a series of candid photos of her on his Instagram. One particular photo showing Baldwin driving a car caught the attention of eagle-eyed fans after spotting a “like” from Mendes.

A screenshot of Baldwin’s photo with Mendes’ “like” immediately made the rounds online, drawing different reactions from fans. As people started interpreting Mendes’ gesture as a sign of flirting, Bieber decided to cut the drama by commenting on fan account HailsBuzzle, “Their [sic] friends, relax.”

As expected, Bieber’s comment drove fans into a frenzy. Six months since marrying Baldwin, it looks like Bieber is secure of his current position in his wife’s life and is not threatened by Mendes in any way.

Before news about Bieber and Baldwin’s wedding broke, Mendes was the last man to be linked to Baldwin. Although the two did not admit that they were in a relationship, their public appearances told otherwise.

Last year, fans spotted the two getting cozy in public several times. After attending the Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios, fans spotted the two having dinner together. Once, Baldwin co-hosted a party with Kendall Jenner and escaped afterward with Mendes, with their hands locked. They also walked down the Met Gala red carpet side by side in May.

Meanwhile, Bieber and Baldwin recently admitted that their marriage is a work in progress and that they have been going to therapy to improve their relationship. In an interview earlier this year, Baldwin told Vogue that she’s been learning to dive deep and be more in touch with her emotions to strengthen her communication with her husband.

Bieber and Baldwin tied the knot in September 2018. Since they got married, the two have reportedly been committed to being there for each other through ups and downs.
