After portraying Luke Skywalker in “Star Wars” films, Mark Hamill is now set to lend his voice to Hollywood’s most demonic doll, Chucky. The actor confirmed that he’s joining the cast of the “Child’s Play” revival via a video greeting on Sunday.

In a taped greeting at Orion’s pane presentation at WonderCon in Anaheim, Hamill announced his involvement in the upcoming project. “If you’re wondering who’s going to play Chucky in the new ‘Child’s Play,’ you’re looking at him,” the actor said in the video.

Although Hamill’s announcement thrilled fans, the news was not so much shocking in terms of the actor getting the part. Hamill is one of the most beloved voice actors in Hollywood, having previously voiced Batman villain The Joker in the 1992 series “Batman: The Animated Series” and the 1993 feature film “Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm.” For many fans, his portrayal of the baddie remains the most definitive portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime.

With Hamill nabbing the role of the creepy murder toy in the “Child’s Play” revival, he is going to replace Brad Dourif, who voiced Chucky in the original film and in all the four sequels, stretching from the original “Child’s Play.” He also voiced the character in the direct-to-video releases, 2013’s “Curse Of Chucky” and 2017’s “Cult Of Chucky.”

Aside from Hamill, other actors confirmed to join the project are Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman and Brian Tyree Henry. Although details about the film are still scarce, it is dubbed as the “contemporary re-imagining” of the 1988 horror flick that centers on the bloodthirsty Buddi doll. The first “Child’s Play” is considered one of the best cult classics in the history of Hollywood. Its terror became such a fad that Jason, Freddy, Leatherface, Pinhead and Ghostface all became icons of R-rated horror. The film that started it all celebrated its 30th anniversary last year.

Directed by Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) and written by Tyler Burton Smith, the film operates under the tagline “More than a toy … he’s your best friend.” It was produced under the KatzSmith Productions banner and is set for release on June 21.
