Telenovela star Ximena Duque, who voted yesterday for the first time in the U.S., and is motivating Latinos to go out and vote too. The actress, known for starring in Telemundo telenovelas and soon to appear in her first crossover role on “Days of Our Lives,” is preparing for an even bigger role as first-time voter in the country! Ximena registered to vote for the first time in January to raise awareness about the importance of civic participation and help to increase the number of Hispanic voters.

With 50,000 Hispanics turning 18 every month, Hispanics have the power to decide elections. For this reason, she wants to motivate young Hispanics to get out and vote. “Many of our parents who came to the U.S. from Latin America, Europe, and the Caribbean didn’t have the privilege to choose the person to lead their country, so it is our duty to get informed and vote for the candidate that supports our ideas, concerns. That’s the beauty of being able to vote and decide for yourself.”

Ximena is part of Telemundo’s #YODECIDO campaign; a one-of-a-kind effort to inform and empower Hispanic voters nationwide, which includes a series of community events throughout the country as well as extensive political coverage, and online resources.
