As expected, the 2016 Tony Awards have been very moving, especially after show officials announced the ceremony would be dedicated to the Orlando shooting victims.

As “Hamilton” makes its way through winning all the awards, Lin-Manuel Miranda accepted his first prize of the night for his smash hit play’s Best Music & Lyrics, and, as usual, his acceptance speech did not disappoint, except in this case, he left no dry eyes in the room.

“My wife is the reason anything gets done. She notches me towards promise my degrees. She is a perfect symphony of one. Our son is her most beautiful repreess,” Miranda began. “We chase the melodies that seem to find us, until they’re finished songs and start to play. When senseless acts of tragedy remind us that nothing here is promised. Not one day. This show is proof that history remembers. We live through times where hate and fear seem stronger. We rise and fall and light from dying embers. Remembrances that hope and love last longer. Love is love is love is love is love is love. It cannot be killed or swept aside. I sing Vanessa’s symphony; Eliza sings her song and fill the world with music, love and pride,” he concluded.

Earlier this Sunday, the organizers of the 70th annual celebration released a statement via Twitter saying, “Our hearts are heavy for the unimaginable tragedy that happened last night in Orlando. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those affected. The Tony Awards dedicates tonight’s ceremony to them.”

Broadway has deep ties with the LGBT community, so along with the world, several theatre personalities shared their condolences and reactions, and said every single note they sang; every single dance move they make and every single step they take will be dedicated to those affected by the tragic incident.
