“The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah confirmed that he is leaving the anchor desk after seven years of hosting the satirical comedy news program.

In a video posted Thursday on Twitter on the show’s official account, Noah revealed to the audience that he will be officially departing the late-night series and his “time is up.” According to the late-night host, he is “filled with gratitude for the journey” of being a host of the comedic news series.

“It’s been absolutely amazing. It’s something that I never expected,” Noah said pertaining to his experience hosting the show. “I found myself thinking throughout the time of everything we’ve gone through. The Trump presidency, the pandemic, just the journey, more pandemic and I realize that after the seven years, my time is up.”

Noah is a South African standup comedian and became “The Daily Show” host in 2015 as a newcomer in the industry, according to CNN. His statement contains a reflection of the time he had spent in the show that celebrated its 25th-year last year.

“I realized there’s another part of my life that I want to carry on exploring. I miss learning other languages. I miss going to other countries and putting on shows, I miss just being everywhere, doing everything,” Noah stated.

He also thanked the fans who continuously watch the show and also hinted that his decision to depart is because of his desire to do more standup work.

“I never dreamed that I would be here. I sort of feel like ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.’ I came here for a tour of what the previous show was and then the next thing you know I was handed the keys,” Noah said as he thanked the viewers.

“I spent two years in my apartment, not on the road, and when I got back out there, I realized there’s another part of my life out there that I want to carry on exploring. I miss learning other languages. I miss going to other countries and putting on shows,” he added.

According to The Times, the Comedy Central spokesperson said in a statement, “We are grateful to Trevor for our amazing partnership over the past seven years. With no timetable for his departure, we’re working together on the next steps.”

He did not share when he will last appear on the show, but assured that he will still be around for a couple more episodes.
