President Donald Trump will not be lifting the social distancing guidelines as he initially planned. Rather, he extended it to April 30 to slow the spread of the virus and stated that the U.S. is likely to reach the peak of the coronavirus pandemic in two weeks.

"The modeling estimates that the peak in death rate is likely to hit in two weeks,” the POTUS said on March 29. “So I'll say it again, the peak, the highest point of death rates, remember, this is likely to hit in two weeks."

He added, “Therefore, the next two weeks and during this period it's very important that everyone strongly follow the guidelines. The better you do, the faster this whole nightmare will end.”

According to USA Today, Trump updated the instructions with regards to social distancing on the same day after the health official from infectious disease issued a warning as New York is already approaching 1,000 deaths. In the entire U.S., the death toll has already climbed over 2,400.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country’s director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, noted that deaths have doubled in just two days so it is possible for the country to deal with a million cases. He went on to say that the disease can claim around 100,000 to 200,000 Americans before the crisis slows down and finally end.

"Whenever the models come in, they give a worst-case scenario and a best-case scenario. Generally, the reality is somewhere in the middle,” Fauci told CNN. “I've never seen a model of the diseases that I've dealt with where the worst case actually came out. They always overshoot."

As the spread of coronavirus is very alarming, Trump said that they will finalize the social distancing guidelines this Tuesday. He also confidently told the citizens that by June 1, America will be on its way to recovery. The president said that great things will happen starting from that date as the crisis ends.

Initially, Trump was planning to open the U.S. economy again by Easter Sunday which is on April 12. He said that he will seek advice from health experts and officials before making a final decision. Apparently, based on the situation in the U.S., the lifting of restrictions will not be happening soon.
