December 12 marks Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe, one of Mexico’s most celebrated Catholic holidays. Thousands of pilgrims will honor the indigenous-language-speaking apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary by traveling to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, where the most well-known image of the Virgin Mary is housed. According to the Catholic tradition, an Aztec Christian convert named Juan Diego saw an apparition of an unknown maiden atop the Tepeyac Hill outside Mexico City.

Guadalupe intereceded on Juan Diego’s behalf multiple times over the course of the story, performing miracles: the healing of the indigenous peasant's uncle, then the growing of Castilian roses on a Mexican hillside in the winter, and the supernatural printing of her own image on his smoc. To honor this story, and the religious significance has inspired a yearly celebration of the Virgin Mary on December 12, and to honor her on Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe, we have collected bible quotes and other inspired writings about the Virgin Mary.
