Premios TVyNovelas 2014 is the most watched award show in Mexico and honors the best in television and our beloved genre of telenovelas. The gala is just as important as the Emmys or the Oscars are to Hollywood, and it was this last award show that producers of TVyNovelas took a cue from for the live event last night. We all remember when Ellen DeGeneres grouped the A-list actors for a selfie that included Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt, Lupita Nyong'o, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts and other Hollywood elite. Adrián Uribe did something similar at the Mexican ceremony, but the results were not the same. At the Oscars, Ellen challenged President Obama's photo and she wanted to beat his retweet record, which she did minutes after uploading the photo and causing the social network to crash.

Uribe launched a similar dare, but trying to beat Ellen's retweet count. His version of the selfie included telenovela actors like Erika Buenfil, Marjorie De Sousa, Sebastián Rulli, Mane de la Parra, Ninel Conde and Sofía Castro. The out of focus photo has barely crossed the 12-thousand retweet count in its more than twelve hours living in cyberspace. However, it did inspire a trending topic on the social network that has been persisent since it debuted last night. "Más Naco Que El Selfie De Adrián Uribe" has been the most used hashtag in Mexico to make fun of the selfie that was taken during the award show. Users have been mocking its tasteless act and unfunny bit and putting themselves down because they believe the star quality is not the same as those in Hollywood. "Thanks to everyone that has written and understood that the 'selfie' from last night was a joke," Uribe wrote on Twitter. "I didn't beat Ellen in retweets but I have in f-yous."
