Sure she can appoint lords and knights and even fire the entire government of Australia, but the Queen wields as much power in the big picture as she does in smaller things, including what can and can be worn by royal members of the family in public. Here are just some of them.

Lose The Beard

Facial hair was often a subject of contention between the grandmother and grandson in the past. Back in 2014, Prince Harry made the headlines for his rule-bending beard and how much the Queen “intensely dislikes” it. The prince wanted to go with this look again, this time for his wedding with Meghan Markle. However, he had to ask for the Queen's permission.

Wedding Dress Stress

Apart from facial hair on royal weddings, the Queen also has to give her okay on the wedding dresses. While the brides will still have a say on the design and aesthetics, the Queen has to be on board with it too. Otherwise, it's back to the drawing board. As a result, past royal brides, including Kate Middleton, reportedly had to loop her in on the entire design process.

Hats, Hats And More Hats

This one the Queen is pretty adamant about. Since the 1950s, royal women have been required to wear hats for high-profile engagements. Her Majesty herself has consistently rocked quite a lot of bright and bold colors to match her equally gaudy outfits.

Her rule for herself is to be vibrant as possible, so no beige for her royal highness. For everybody else, however, it’s to always wear one at any formal event.

Only Longer Hemlines

The Queen also requires duchesses and princesses to wear a pantyhose and shy away from short skirts. Early in her royal days, Kate sported some of her leggiest styles. It didn't take long for Her Majesty to make much-needed tweaks in her wardrobe. And to this day, the Duchess of Cambridge is clearly taking this rule to heart all while managing to look extra good in the process.

No To Wedges

The Queen isn't one for wedges, so she expects royal women to stay away from a pair at least when attending events with her. Kate has been seen rocking some, but fans are sure they won't be seeing the Queen anywhere near it.
