Discover when and where to get ashes for Ash Wednesday 2015 even if you can't make it to church! Shutterstock

Today is Ash Wednesday and the fasting day marks the first day of Lent, it serves as a mirror for the reported 40 days of fasting endured by Jesus Christ while preparing for the upcoming Easter holiday. The actual name of Ash Wednesday is derived from the blessing practiced on the day, ashes are made from palm branches that were blessed on the pervious year’s Palm Sunday, priests then place these ashes on the heads of faithful participants with blessing words, normally "Repent, and believe in the Gospel" or "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” Receiving ashes are an essential part of claiming repentance, but sometimes it can be difficult to make your way to church in the middle of the average work day. For that reason, “Ashes To Go” was born, which brought the religious service out from behind church doors and into places that normally encounter during our average workday. “Ashes To Go” is convenient and easy, but still allow for faithful participants to mark the start of Lent.
