Why Kate Middleton Watched Princess Diana’s Videos Before Joining The Royal Family

Kate Middleton was reportedly required to watch videos of Princess Diana before she joined the royal family. The Duchess of Cambridge became an official member of the British clan after she wed Prince William on April 29, 2011.

Royal biographer Katie Nicholl said that the mom of three was asked to watch old footages of the Princess of Wales so that she would have an idea on how to conduct herself like a royal. The media training was also done to help Prince William’s wife avoid Princess Diana’s tragic relationship with the paparazzi and the press.

In the book “Kate: The Future Queen,” Nicholl detailed how the Palace had to train Kate how to deal with the media even while she was just dating Prince William.

“Bizarrely, she had been advised to watch footage of the late Princess of Wales in order to learn how to deal with the paparazzi, notorious for being aggressive in their pursuit of a picture, taunting their prey in order to get a response,” Nicholl said. “At the palace, there was a concerted effort not to allow Kate to be exposed to the same ruthless treatment,” she added.

And according to the royal expert, the first test of Kate’s media training came when she attended the Horse Trials at Gatcombe Park. At that time, Prince William wasn’t with Kate, but the press still tried to get her to pose for pictures.

Kate gave the press the straightest but also the most polite response to their request. She said that she is granted their request for a photo now, and she would have to keep accepting the same requests later on. Kate’s diplomatic response at that time convinced royal fans that she was fit to be a member of the royal family.

Several years later, Kate and Prince William are still married. In fact, they just celebrated their first wedding anniversary last year. The couple has also been blessed with three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
