Not everybody might be a fan of Taylor Swift, but there’s no denying that the singer/songwriter already made a very big name in the music industry. While most of her fans might adore her for her singable, last-song-syndrome-inducing titles, what they might just realize is that Swift is a legend in the making. She has what it takes to become the greatest songwriter of her generation.

She Writes Her Own Songs

Not everyone can sing superbly, but even rarer still are those gifted in crafting the lyrics of a beautiful song. In fact, most singers don’t write their own songs, which reportedly include some of the big names in the industry such as Elton John, Frank Sinatra, Diana Ross and Whitney Houston.

But Swift belongs to a rare breed of music artists who prefer to pen down their own songs. And fans are now beginning to appreciate this talent, even describing her as “Barry Mann and Bruce Springsteen, together in one silver metallic mini dress-wearing package.”

Her Songwriting Is Constantly Evolving

Not surprisingly, her 2006 self-titled debut might be described as a little primitive. But that is to be expected because she was still 16 years old at that time. In fact, most of those songs were probably written when she was still 14 or 15 years old at that time. The point is, one shouldn’t expect the emotional depth of a 30-year-old from a 16-year-old artist.

But Swift learned to hone her craft fast. Two years later, one can gauge the vast improvement of her songwriting skills based on her “Fearless” album. And people in the industry likewise noticed and acknowledge her skills, as well as it earned her a Grammy for Album of the Year.

She Writes Songs For Other Artists

Swift probably loved writing songs so much that she even writes songs for other artists. Fans might not be aware of it, but Swift penned Little Big Town’s “Better Man,” Miley Cyrus’ “You'll Always Find Your Way Back Home,” Kellie Pickler’s “Best Days Of Your Life” and Calvin Harris’ “This Is What You Came For.”

She’s Still Young And Has Plenty Of Room To Grow

And this is all from a multi-talented artist still in her twenties. This makes one look forward with anticipation on the dazzling heights that Swift’s songwriting career might reach in the future.

Surprisingly, Swift managed to remain grounded despite her success. She even thanked all of those music greats that came before her. “I first wanted to say to Cynthia Weil, to Barry Mann, and to Carole King, you, the Brill Building, your legacy, are the reason we do what we do,” Swift said in her speech during the BMI Awards dinner. “Many of us in this room can't dream of accomplishing what you guys have accomplished.”
