More than a year after the successful premiere of the Polish-American fantasy saga, “The Witcher,” the book-based drama series is all set to stream its second season.

"The Witcher," set on the medieval-inspired land known as "The Continent," tells the legend of Geralt of Rivia played by Henry Cavill, and Princess Cirilla played by Freya Allan, whose destinies links them to each other.

Season 1 released in December 2019 and was a huge hit. The show gained instant popularity and so at the end of the 8th and last episode of Season 1, the makers announced that "The Witcher," will be back for a second season. Since then, the fans have been waiting for his return.

Despite the production being suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19, and Cavill suffering an injury during the shoot, the makers have announced that the show will stream on Netflix soon. However, the release dates have not been announced yet.

The pandemic has brought a lot of changes to this installment of the series. The multiple halts and delays in production have resulted in casting changes. The fans will get to see a bunch of new faces as in season 2, Geralt and Ciri are traveling to Kaer Morhen, the witcher stronghold, and moving to the new land means there will be more witchers than just Cavill.

"Probably my favorite additions for season 2 are the new witchers," showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich told The Wrap.

Along with the familiar faces including, Henry Cavill as Geralt, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier, season 2 will showcase plenty of fresh faces.

"I think everyone has really gotten to know these actors a little bit better, too. And it’s exciting because I think that sort of energy will be coming into season 2," Hissrich told the outlet.

Here are some of the recently announced new faces who will be seen in "The Witcher" season 2.

Adjoa Andoh ( Bridgerton, Silent Witness ) will be seen in the role of Nenneke. In the books, she's a priestess and the head of the Temple of Melitele. Cassie Clare ( Brave New World, The Bisexual ) will play Philippa Eilhart, who is an advisor to Redania’s King Vizimir II. Liz Carr ( Silent Witness, Devs ) as Fenn. Simon Callow ( A Room with A View, Four Weddings, and a Funeral ) as Codringher, Fenn's partner. Graham McTavish ( Outlander, The Hobbit ) as the master spy Dijkstra. Kevin Doyle ( Downton Abbey, Happy Valley ) as Ba’lian. This is a new character. Chris Fulton ( Bridgerton, Outlaw King) as Rience, the mage appointed to find Ciri.

Other previously announced actors for Season 2 include Kim Bodnia ( Killing Eve ) as Vesemir, Yasen Atour ( Young Wallander) as Coen, Paul Bullion ( Peaky Blinders) as Lambert, Basil Eidenbenz ( Victoria) will replace Thue Ersted Rasmussen as Eskel, Kristofer Hivju as Nivellen, Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia, Mecia Simson as Francesca and Agnes Born as Vereena.

The cast members who will make a return this season are MyAnna Buring as Tissaia, Lilly Cooper as Murta, Tom Canton as Filavandrel, Jeremy Crawford as Yarpen Zigrin, Mahesh Jadu as Vilgefortz, Eamon Farren as Cahir, Terence Maynard as Artorius, Mimi Ndiweni as Fringilla Vigo, Lars Mikkelson as Stregobor, Royce Pierreson as Istredd, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte as Dara, Therica Wilson Read as Sabrina and Anna Shaffer as Triss Merigold.

This time the makers have addressed the elephant in the room and have fixed the most problematic element of the series, the timeline.

"Obviously, it was one of the most controversial parts of season 1 and I didn’t expect it to be as controversial as it was. But it’s something I still stand behind, in terms of storytelling," Hissrich said.

In season 2, all the characters come together in the same timeline.

"What’s great though is they have intersected now. So what we’ll see in season 2 is that all of our characters are existing on the same timeline," Hissrich said.

"I think it will be a lot easier for the audience follow and understand, especially a new audience coming in. But there are still going to be some fun challenges with time," she added.

As of March 2021, season 2 is still filming.
