Working With Charlie Sheen Was A ‘Roller Coaster,’ Says Jon Cryer

It was when “Two And A Half Men” star Charlie Sheen started losing his cool and insulted show creator Chuck Lorre in a series of public rants that the fans realized just how serious his addiction was. But those who closely worked with Sheen knew the problem even earlier than the public as they witnessed it firsthand. Jon Cryer, his co-star in the hit CBS series, revealed what it was like working with Sheen, and he described it as some kind of a roller coaster.

“It’s kind of a roller coaster when you have Charlie in your life and I just haven’t decided to get back on that roller coaster,” Jon Cryer revealed in an “Access Live” interview. He also revealed that he distanced himself from his former co-star and that he had not spoken to Sheen in “in a couple of years.”

Both Sheen and Cryer are members of the original cast of “Two And A Half Men.” Cryer plays as Alan Harper, the younger chiropractor brother of Sheen’s character, Charlie Harper.

The show quickly became a hit with over 15 million viewers in its first season and was the most-watched comedy show in the United States. Riding on its popularity, Sheen also became the highest-paid actor at that time and was paid more than a million dollars per episode.

However, the show’s future hung in the balance when Warner Bros. and CBS decided to fire Sheen in 2011. To Cryer, who has been working with Sheen back in the days when he was still sober, it was painful to watch his co-star sink deeper into his addition.

“It was tough to watch a guy who I had seen … you know, when we started the show, Charlie had been sober for a while and was really in control of his life,” Cryer confessed. “And it was tough to see that go away. That was the hardest part of being involved in that process. But actually doing the shows was always great. There was never a time when it wasn’t great.”

Thankfully, Sheen is now on the mend and seems bent on getting his life under control once more. In December, he celebrated one year of sobriety with a Twitter post saying, “So, THIS happened yesterday! A fabulous moment, in my renewed journey.”
