The nation has been on watch for any news sightings of newborn girl Sofia Victoria Alvarez Abarca. While her mother was shot dead, authorities are desperate to find answers. However, we can all rest easy now being that the newborn girl was found in perfect condition.

According to FOX News Latino, the woman responsible for abducting the newborn and murdering her mother was a long-time acquaintance. Yesenia Sesmas,34, is suspected of faking a pregnancy for months and kidnapping the newborn in an attempt to pass off the child as her own.

Wichita police Lt. Todd Ojile tells The Wichita Eagle that the 34-year-old knew the victim-Laura Abarca Nogueda for a few years.

Sesmas is currently being held in a Dallas jail on a Kansas warrant, with first-degree murder and kidnapping charges pending. Authorities who are pursuing the charges are seeking to have her extradited back to Kansas.

She was arrested in Dallas after a police department SWAT team there executed a search warrant at about 4:15 a.m. Saturday, Ojile said. Sofia, whose name has also been spelled Sophia by police, was found alive and safe inside. She was taken to a Dallas hospital for a health evaluation, he said, and has since been reunited with her family. She is 10 days old now.

Apparently, Sesmas had spent some time in Wichita before returning to Texas to live several months ago, Lt. Ojile shared. She traveled to Wichita to kidnap the baby, he added.

“The investigation lasted all day Friday and into Friday night,” Ojile said, when authorities were tipped off to a possible suspect – Sesmas – and the address of the Dallas home where Sofia ultimately was discovered unharmed.

"Immediately upon learning that Sofia was found safely in Dallas, investigators from the Wichita Police Department boarded a Sedgwick County sheriff’s plane and flew to Dallas, Texas, to conduct the interviews,” Ojile said.

Three other people who live at the Dallas address where Sesmas was arrested were questioned at the Dallas Police Department but knew nothing of the scheme, Ojile said. They are Sesmas’ boyfriend, her son and her niece, he said. They have since been released form custody.

Sesmas is currently being held in Texas awaiting extradition.
