An Indian couple allegedly killed themselves, an hour apart, following a domestic dispute last Saturday, Sep. 17, authorities said. The woman’s family has accused her in-laws of harassment and abetting the couple’s suicide.

The deceased couple, 35-year-old Sushant Gosh and his wife, Juhi had been married for three years and were living in a rented home in Chouma, Gurugram, where their lifeless bodies were discovered on Saturday.

According to local media reports, Juhi had a hostile relationship with her in-laws, who allegedly harassed her over dowry money.

It was reported that Gosh was extremely upset after his mother berated him for going to the market and getting his wife some cow milk for breakfast.

The mother and son got into a heated argument after which Gosh stormed into his bathroom and locked the door from the inside.

Reports said he drank a bottle of toilet cleaner in a bid to end his life. Gosh was found unresponsive, frothing from his mouth.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead, reports said.

Juhi, who was devastated by her husband’s sudden death, reportedly attempted to hang herself to death but failed. She then consumed the same toilet cleaner, reports said.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Juhi’s mother, Shauli Mitra, claimed that her daughter would often complain about being harassed by her in-laws.

“We always thought things would settle down with time,” Mitra said, adding that the couple wanted to live separately but Joshi’s parents had maintained their strong disapproval.

“I wish they had moved to another flat. My daughter would have been alive today,” Juhi’s mother said.

The bodies of the victims were handed over to their family members following an autopsy.

Based on a complaint, the police have registered a case against Juhi’s in-laws and further investigation is underway, reports said.

LT reported a similar incident when two 19-year-old women, both childhood friends and living in the same apartment complex in India’s Pune city, allegedly killed themselves within a span of one hour, last Wednesday, Sep. 14.

One of the teens, Sanika Bhagwat, who was pursuing an animation course at a local college, was found dead in the bedroom of her residence at around 6.30 pm.

Reports said the teen hanged herself to death.

The officers were investigating the scene when the teen girl’s childhood friend, Akanksha Gaikwad, who was pursuing a degree in Commerce at a local college, reached there and reportedly went into a state of shock after seeing Bhagwat’s lifeless body, police said.

The teen’s body was brought down from the noose and was being transported into an ambulance when the second teen victim, plunged to her death from the terrace of the four-story apartment building, according to reports.
