The Audi team has dominated the top category of endurance racing for over a decade. Meanwhile, the Toyota TS040 took the WEC championship title for 2014. Now, it is Porsche that draws first blood as the pair of Porsche 919 Hybrid race cars lock out the front grid with a perfect 1-2 in qualifying..

The #17 Porsche driven by Mark Webber, Timo Bernhard, and Brendon Hartley took pole with the fastest time of 1:39.721. This is the second season of FIA World Endurance Championship racing for both Mark Webber as well as the Porsche 919 Hybrid. In 2014, the team had already earned three finishes while the sister car driven by Dumas, Jani, and Lieb scored the 919's first win at least year's season finale at Sao Paolo.

“The first year I learned a lot, to be honest,” said Mark Webber in an interview with FOX Sports. “I was definitely improving as the season went on, especially at Le Mans, where I was quite low in experience.

For the first pole of 2015, Webber gives a lot of credit to the improvements made to the machine:

“We’ve ironed out as many of the problems as we didn’t like on the ’14 car as we can,” Webber said. “There’s still a few there; it’s natural, you cannot get everything perfect in the first attempt. But we will look to phase these out as close to Le Mans as we can.

“It’s still relatively early. We don’t have the car completely perfect yet because of the focus on endurance, which is going quite well, I must say. Then we can start giving the car some more love for the short races, on pace and intensity.”
