Aaron Hernandez, the former New England Patriots tight end, has been indicted for the murder of Odin Lloyd. Now his name is once again in the news as the NFL Players Association has filed a complaint to Hernandez's former team to collect $82,000 in bonuses that it owes the player. "On behalf of all players, it is our responsibility to protect the rights in the collective bargaining agreement," the players union said in a statement disclosed by CNN on Tuesday. "We are not tone-deaf to what the allegations are in this case, but for the benefit of all players, there are important precedents here we must protect."

The Patriots had signed Aaron for a five-year contract valued at $40 million. His team later released him from this deal when he became involved in the killing of Odin Lloyd case. Carl Francis, the NFLPA spokesman said that the union has filed over 70 cases similar to this one. "So, while the other facts involved in the situation are rare, the fact that a club did not pay a player and we filed a grievance about it is routine," Francis said. "We are obligated to defend the clauses in a player's contract and (collective bargaining agreement) regardless of what the player did (or) didn't do. We know the allegations and his incarceration is serious stuff, but what happens to his grievance can impact other players."

The 23-year-old former football player pleaded not guilty but was held without bail in the Bristol County House of Correction in Massachusetts since his arrest in June. From the case, Hernandez picked up Llord from his apartment along with his two accomplices, Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace. A few days later, Lloyd's body was found in an industrial park. Surveillence cameras provided evidence for the court to prosecute Hernandez. This isn't Aaron's only ongoing case as an investigation of a double-homicide where he is the prime suspect is expected to have a resolution soon.
