Why Latino Celebrities Need To Be Thankful In 2013

Thanksgiving is this Thursday, November 28 and it's that time of the year we all gather around a table with family and friends to give thanks for what we have. We should all be grateful for having people that we love and love us and for having health to continue going down life's road. It's a time to reflect on not what we want, but what we already have. Our Latino celebrities have it all but to continue being relevant in show business they need to continue making their mark as they walk. We have gathered 13 of the most notorious Latinos this year and explain why they should be thankful.

Eiza Gonzalez: Our beloved Eiza needs to be thankful that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth broke up just as she was making her way to Hollywood after starring in the hit soap "Amores Verdaderos." After a couple of days living the LA life, she actress went on a weekend getaway to Las Vegas and was spotted with "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" star and seen canoodling at a club. Liam's recent breakup was already huge news, but his rebound was none other than our Eiza, causing huge headlines worldwide. Everyone questioned who this lovely and fashionable startlet was and Gonzalez got her fifteen minutes in the spotlight scorring a new lead role in a movie, being spotted with socialite Brittny Gastineau and booking a role in the Robert Rodriguez television adaptation of "From Dusk Til Dawn." Sure, Liam denied dating Eiza in a recent interview leading us to believe it was just a weekend fling, but at least Eiza has landed and has ties in Hollywood.

Paulina Rubio: Our golden girl needs to be thankful for "The X-Factor" launching her as a true global superstar. First of all, she should be lucky the producers of the reality show did not have her take an English exam before casting her as one of the judges on the talent show. We love our girl Pau Pau, but we feel bad week after week when she finds it difficult to express herself. Paulina's stint on the Simon Cowell produced show will open up her opportunities and make her a known celebrity in countries that don't speak Spanish. The singer has appeared on talk shows like "The Wendy Williams Show," "Conan," "Fashion Police" and "The View" to talk about her experience on the show and growing her brand. Rubio launched a shoe and bag line to capitalize on her newfound success and fellow "X-Factor" judge Demi Lovato has even hinted a future collab. Paulina has not had it easy in 2013 with a divorce that has not been finalized, cyber bullying on an alleged weight gain and allegedly attacking a photog. Nonetheless, the good outweighs the bad and she has had a succesful 2013 and has many more reasons to give thanks.

Jennifer Lopez: Needs to be thankful that Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj were a flop on "American Idol." The Latina who was named "World Icon" at this year's Premios Juventud will be back at the judges table for the upcoming season of the talent show. After J.Lo did not renew her contract for a third year, producers brought in Carey and Minaj to spice things up, but it proved faulty as the ratings declined. The producers on the show saw Lopez's charisma on the panel and decided to bring her back, with what we are sure of is a multi-million deal, to help out the show and bring it back to its roots. Jenny was also award a Hollywood star on the Walk of Fame and continued on her succesful world tour. In recent weeks, Mattel launched two different versions of Barbie as an homage to her.

William Levy: The telenovela heartthrob should be thankful that "La Tempestad" was a flop and forced producers to make drastic changes. When this soap started William sported hair extensions as he portrayed a sailor. Fans of William and telenovelas were belived to be so put off by his look that it was reflected in the ratings. This made producers cut his hair short and make him look more desirable to viewers. Although that did not help the viewership as the telenovela had more problems that it could handle. Levy should also be thankful for having a nouveau actress in the mix, Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete. Her acting abilities were so plain and dull that he made William look like a complete pro, worthy of an Emmy and Oscar nomination. Another reason he should be thankful that "La Tempestad" was not a hit, was so he could finish his last contractual project (as it was cut short) and continue eating wine popsicles with Kris Jenner.

Thalia: Needs to be thankful to Paulina Rubio! After Pau was named judge on "The X-Factor" everyone was appalled as her English is very limited and she is not well-known in the Anglo market. With Paulina paving the way in this new wave, after Jennifer Lopez and Shakira of course, Thalia has been able to also join in on her success. Thalia recently co-hosted "The View" about a month after Paulina did. We have to give Thalia credit though as she is a star in her own right. This year the Latin super star introduced a children's book titled "Chupie The Binky That Returned Home," inspired by her daughter Sabrina.

Eugenio Derbez: Is thankful for "Instructions Not Included" his directorial and screenwriting debut in the big screen. The Mexican comedian had been struggling to make his mark in Hollywood and it was until this year and on a movie he created that he achieved success. His film was a smash hit in the U.S. box office and outperformed the per-screen average of movies that opened that same weekend, even though the release was very limited. This not only proved that star power that Derbez is, but proved their is a need for movie makers to target the Latino audience with quality projects.

Eva Longoria: Having more success as a producer than an actress. The actress that found fame thanks to her role as Gabrielle Solis on the hit ABC drama "Desperate Housewives" scored big with "Devious Maids." The show developed at ABC Studios was passed on by the network and later sold to the Lifetime cable network this past summer. "Devious" a show that was created by Eugenio Derbez for Televisa, only lasted one season in the country of origin, but the adaptation by Marc Cherry was able to score a second season after its ratings continued to climbed as the season closed. Longoria also had a datomg reality show that was picked up by NBC, but it never connected with the audience. Not everything was bad though as she was soon linked to Spanish Ernesto Argüello, one of the bachelors from the show. Eva has continued to be the voice for Latinos in the U.S. and has kept the ALMA Awards alive in one form or another to continue honoring Latinos in entertainment. The actress was also recently linked to a top Televisa executive, might this lead to her starring in a telenovela soon?

Miss Universe: Gabriela Isler was named Miss Universe 2013 in the beauty pageant that took place in Moscow. The Venezuelan beauty won the top honors of the Donald Trump produced pageant where a representative from different countries compete to win the title. This award allows them to carry out social activism and raise their profile in a massive scale. Isler was already seen as one of the guests to the Latin Grammy's 2013.

Miguel Bosé: The Spanish singer was named as Person of The Year at the Latin Grammy Awards 2013 in Las Vegas. A long career in the music business, Bose received the honor with a tribute from Ricky Martin and Draco Rosa as well as other top musicians. Earlier this year he revealed that he hwas 4 children and not 2 as the media originally thought.

Laura Bozzo: The Peruvian host shoutd be thankful that she has not been thrown out of Mexico after she was exposed by journalist Carmen Aristegui for being a fraud. Aristegui had two witnesses on her show calling Bozzo a liar after the storm devastation that hit Guerrero in Mexico. They claim that Bozzo staged her rescue efforts while Aristegui found it alarming how Laura was given access to public resources and helicopters while in the middle of a stage emegency. A petition was started to have Televisa cancel Laura's daily talk show, but those efforts went to waste. Now Laura Bozzo is looking to prosecute all of those people that doubted her and has continued to try to redeem herself.

Alfonso Cuarón: "Gravity" has been the hit of the year with a thin premise that had everyone doubting the Mexican director could pull it off. WIth amazing visual effects it has left everyone amazed and we can already hear Oscar buzz around the film that starred Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.

El Canelo Alvarez: The Televisa golden boy lost a fight earlier this year, but he should be thankful that Floyd Mayweather, was not too hard on his face. Although he lost the fight, his face is intact and no major injuries that would leave him scarred for life were seen.

Mexican National Football Team: Mexico as a Latino nation should be thankful to the U.S. when they beat Panama in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. If Panama would have beaten the U.S. team, Mexico would not have been able to go on a playoff against New Zealand and would have been eliminated from playing at the World Cup. During the playoff they should also thank that New Zealand plays football much worse than they do. On the first leg of the playoff Mexico beat New Zealand 5-1 and on the second game it was a 2 to 4 win.

WHO ELSE DO YOU THINK SHOULD BE THANKFUL THIS 2013?
