Following Bazil Restaurant's first Sunday brunch service, parents Dawn and Jeremy DeRoo noticed their children behaving strangely. The kids subsequently fell asleep for the entire day and appeared to be hungover the next morning.

At the Rochester, N.Y. restaurant, the children, between 2 and 7, complained that the supposed orange juice tasted funny. Dawn DeRoo tasted the drink, but said it didn't taste like alcohol, so she approved it for the children's consumption, UPI reported. When the parents overheard diners at a nearby table complain that their juice was spiked, they complained to the server, who apologized and gave the children milk instead.

Despite this gesture, the two took their children and went home after the manager failed to come out and apologize as well. They tried to call the police once they noticed their children were drowsy and unwilling to get up, but were told that accidents happen and there was nothing within reason the police could do. Jeremy was furious at the outcome.

"That's not good enough for parents having kids, drunk and sleeping all day," he told WHAM-TV. "It's not fair. These little kids shouldn't have any alcohol period."

When owner Danny Daniele heard of the incident, he said he sent the family an email apologizing for the mix-up and offered to compensate them for the meal. He told reporters that he did not know of the incident right away even though he was working when it happened. His own family was out to brunch at the Italian restaurant that day and his children, 2 and 3 years old, did not experience the same signs, the New York Daily News reported. However, he conceded that it could have been the result of juice containers being mislabeled and said the staff has since relabeled them.

The DeRoos said they do not intend to sue the restaurant.
