George Lucas has won his first Emmy award for his animated series on Cartoon Network "Star Wars: The Clone Wars."

He was presented with the Daytime Emmy award by actress Carrie Fisher, Princess Leia, at a ceremony in Hollywood yesterday. The Clone Wars beat The Legend of Korra and Dan Vs. in this category.

The Clone Wars had never been nominated for an Emmy until this year, when it received seven nominations. The show also won Friday in the Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program category, with David Tennant honored for his work as the droid Huyang in Season 5.

Dave Filoni released a statement on Facebook about the show's wins:

Everyone, as you know tonight Star Wars: The Clone Wars won an Emmy for Outstanding Special Class Animation and David Tennant won Friday for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Series for his work as Huyang.

These awards represent the hard work of everyone who has worked on The Clone Wars' 5 seasons. Whether you worked on Clone Wars in the Bay Area, Singapore, Taipei, or Tokyo we all did this together.

Star Wars fans, your support and dedication to The Clone Wars helped champion our cause year after year. This win is for you as well, thank you from everyone at Lucasfilm, now let's celebrate!!

"Star Wars: The Clone Wars" was officially cancelled March 2013 but "Star Wars" will be back with the next installment "Star Wars Rebels" in which Filoni is also working on and is set to launch fall 2014.
