Arsenal finished fourth in the English Premier League a year ago and with the club's season-opening match against Aston Villa approaching, the Gunners have yet to make a major move in the transfer window despite having a substantial amount of financial room.

When Gonzalo Higuain signed with Napoli after seven seasons with Real Madrid, Arsenal lost out on the opportunity to reel in one of the top strikers in the game of soccer, leaving the team searching for other capable options.

According to the International Business Times, Arsenal has now turned its focus to disgruntled Liverpool scorer Luis Suarez.

Suarez is upset that Liverpool seems unwilling to enter transfer talks concerning the forward even though he remained with his current club with the understanding that if Liverpool failed to reach the Champions League, he'd be allowed to explore other opportunities.

"Last year I had the opportunity to move to a big European club and I stayed on the understanding that if we failed to qualify for the Champions League the following season I'd be allowed to go," Suarez said regarding the issues holding him back.

"I gave absolutely everything last season," he continued. "But it was not enough to give us a top-four finish, now all I want is for Liverpool to honor our agreement."

In just over two seasons at Anfield, the 26-year-old has recorded a total of 51 goals in 96 appearances, solidifying himself as a tremendous scoring threat. As Sky Sports reports, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers isn't quite ready to part ways with the premier player.

There has been a lot said and a lot reported, and we have made a stance, as a club and as a manager, of the commitment and the standards required.

If you don't have that commitment, and those standards, then you won't play. It's as simple as that. If we have got to sit and wait, then so be it.

But this is a club that has got great values, and we hope that the situation can be resolved amicably, and I am sure it will be.

There's no problem between me and him, it is quite calm. But obviously I have got to respect the club and the team.

So until I get that assurance that we are going to get nothing but 100% commitment, then there will be no solution.

Suarez has been valued at £40 million and with Arsenal having £70 million to spend before the transfer window closes in early September, the Liverpool forward will certainly remain high on the radar.

Until the Anfield higher-ups are willing to negotiate over Luis Suarez however, expect this story to continue to develop.
