Still looking for ways to spend a significant amount of money during the current transfer window, Arsenal recently reached out to Newcastle United in the hopes of reeling in Yohan Cabaye. According to BBC Sport, Arsenal -- who finished fourth in the English Premier League last season -- submitted an offer of £10m for the services of the midfielder, only to see that offer rejected.

Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger have been looking to revamp their midfield unit and following a 3-1 loss to Aston Villa to start the 2013-2014 season, the Gunners are certainly hoping to strike a major deal, even if the recent offer for Cabaye was shot down. Though there continues to be added interest in the midfielder, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew indicated that Cabaye is in fine standing with the club.

He is certainly not too good for us. Cabaye's in a great place right now. You want to keep hold of your best players and he is one of the best in the world, in my opinion. He is a fantastic asset for us, has conducted himself in a very professional manner, despite all the speculation, and I admire him for that.

You are talking to a manager who has the history of Andy Carroll behind him, so you can never say never. We are vulnerable to bigger clubs if they are really decisive and make a bid that knocks us off our feet. But that is not my decision. As the manager, of course, I want him to stay and have a fantastic season here, as our fans do.

In addition to receiving interest from Arsenal, the 27-year-old Cabaye has reportedly been linked with Manchester United, Tottenham, Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain. According to ESPN FC, the Gunners were the first team to make a formal offer and as previously stated, that tabled offer was rejected.

The news that the club failed to once again bring in a respected player will certainly frustrate those involved with the club and fans of the team. Earlier during the transfer period, the Gunners failed to acquire Liverpool's Luis Suarez. After offering a bid of £40m with an additional £1 for the scorer, Arsenal learned that the team's offer was denied, leaving them with a large amount of money and no additional players. Closing on September 2, Arsenal now has just over two weeks to strike a deal with a player(s) of their choosing.
