‘Bond 24’ Casting Rumors: Will Penélope Cruz Be The Next Bond Girl?

Could it be true? After Javier Bardem played the villain in Skyfall, now his beautiful wife Penélope Cruz is going to be the next Bond girl? According to France’s Premiere magazine, they noticed a recent release schedule update from Sony, and the name of Penélope was there, set to appear in the new James Bond movie. They claim the Spanish actress’ name was alongside other cast members such as Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes and Naomie Harris.

"Sony has updated its release schedule," the French publication explains. "Big surprise on page 2: Named alongside Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes and Naomie Harris is Penelope Cruz in the cast of Bond 24 by Sam Mendes." Rumors began swirling that Cruz may be a candidate for a role in “James Bond 24” last summer, but nothing seemed to come from them. Even though the alleged document contained Penélope’s name as part of the James Bond cast, there’s no explanation what her role would be. But, many seem to want her to be the next Bond girl.

Unfortunately, without an official statement from Sony, the rumors are just that, rumors, and we can only wish that Penélope Cruz is, in fact, the next Bond girl. To make you even more hopeful, back in July 2013, Yahoo! Movies UK reported that a source close to the production said, “The producers have tried to get Penélope before, but she has never been available because of other commitments. The discussions have been going on for some time and they are working out the contract details now.”
