Carlos Larraín, the leader of the center-right National Renewal, or RN, in Chile made his opinion clear in the anticipation of a presidential run by former chief executive Michelle Bachelet, of the PS or Socialist Party: We don't need her in charge again.
"It is a remarkably effective government," Larraín said of the leadership of current president Sebastian Piñera. "One in every five dollars goes to education."
When asked about a possible run during a visit to the United Nations, she replied: "March has 31 days." She noted that she has until the fourth week of this month to officially announce her candidacy. One of the leaders of the PS, Juan Luis Castro told "Cooperativa" that she confided to him that she would indeed seek another tenure in office.
Larraín was unrelenting in his assurance that the only way to continue to improve conditions within the country was to stay the course with Piñera in Santiago.
"There will be a disappointment with Bachelet," he said on Chilevision.
Larraín's words are boosted by Piñera's record approval rating of 38 percent in recent weeks. Most recently the Chilean peso reached a three-week high in value, besting China's growth according to Bloomberg News.
