Pablo Escobar's involvement with popular Mexican sitcom "El Chavo del 8" has long been a contentious issue. However, rumors have re-emerged after a photo showing the Colombian drug lord with the cast of the popular TV show went viral on Mexican social media. The long-lasting rumor is that the entire cast of the Mexican show performed at a private party for Pablo Escobar in Colombia. The image, whose veracity is dubious, reignited the rumors online.
Pablo Escobar can be seen in the background of the photo of what looks like the cast of "El Chavo del 8" in front of an airplane. The image supposedly shows the group arriving in Colombia to be the main act in a birthday celebration of one of his daughters, Manuela Escobar Henao. According to speculation, the cast of “El Chavo del 8”, was transported directly to Escobar's estate in Colombia from Mexico City in a private plane paid for by the Medellin Cartel.
Years later, the cast, headed by Roberto Gomez Bolaños, again traveled to Colombia, but this time contracted by the Rodríguez Orejuela brothers, heads of the Cali Cartel (arch rivals of Escobar's gang) for a kid's birthday party. The supposed relationship between Gómez Bolaños and the actors on the show generated considerable debate at the time, however, the creator of the popular TV show denied the rumors. Yet one of the stars of the show, María Antonieta de las Nieves, who played “La Chilindrina”, confined her presence at both events.
