Real Madrid has defeated Barcelona 2-1 in a thrilling Copa del Rey final with the clinching goal coming in the last six minutes of play. The first goal came in the first ten minutes when Di Maria finished an incredible break by Real to score the opening goal. Barça fought back and managed to score in the 68th minute with a header from Bartra. This lead to a very tense fourth quarter with Real Madrid managing to steal victory in the last few minutes with another goal from Bale.

Real Madrid and Barcelona were pretty evenly matched, as predicted from two such stellar teams in the competition. Real Madrid seemed in control of the ball initially, but Barça regrouped and managed to take possession. Despite this, Barcelona was not able to control the ball enough to capitalize on goal scoring opportunities. Real Madrid's strong defence kept Barças attacks to a minimum, while Real's surging counterattacks proved a key in this tight match.

Lionel Messi was a predictable stand out for Barcelona, however, he was unable to bring the whole team up to his level. On Real's Gareth Bale's incredible play, including his wonderful late goal, was really significant for the team's victory. Barcelona finish what has been a disappointing end to the season: they were seriously outplayed to lose 1-0 to Atletico Madrid and crash out of the Champions League before a defeat by the same scoreline at Granada on Saturday.
