'El Chapo' Guzman is on the run again after his latest prison escape. The Mexican gangster has been a symbol for impunity in his long career -- largely avoiding punishment for running one of the world's largest crimminal organizations and overseeing many, many murders. When he's been prison, he lived the high life (see below). When he's felt like it, he's simply escaped. Mexican authorities may have refused to extradite El Chapo to the U.S. as a point of national pride. Last week he escaped, leaving U.S. officials saying "I told you so."

He escaped from Mexico's only supermax prison, in a huge blow the country's president, Enrique Peña Nieto , who's been criticized for his anti-cartel strategies and a growing state of insecurity in Mexico. Nieto is now desperately trying to recapture Guzmán in a giant manhunt. Officials overseening the prison that he broke out of have been fired. Seven lower-level employees have been arrested, on suspicion that they looked the ther way or aided El Chapo's escape.

1) El Chapo’s full name is Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera.

2) No one knows his real birthday. Might have been 1954. Might have been 1957. We're not sure.

3) El Chapo -- meaning shorty -- comes from his stout build; he’s only 5’ 6” tall.

4) The first time he was in jail, El Chapo turned his prison into a penthouse, using bribery and threats to get access to cocaine, prostitutes and gourmet meals, according to Univision .

5) What is El Chapo’s net worth? In 2013, Forbes magazine calculated that Guzmán had 4 billion dollars.

6) We don’t know how many people Guzmán has killed, but he claimed to have directly or indirectly murdered thousands of people .

7) El Chapo’s sons have also been involved in the drug trade. His son Edgar was killed by rival gangsters.

8) El Chapo started as a gangster in the Guadalajara cartel, and then broke off to form his own Sinaloa cartel. He success was partially due to a vacuum in the drug market , created by the downfall of Colombian kingpin Pablo Escobar.

9) Guzman has described himself as morally superior to his rivals because he’s just a drug trafficker. He claims not to participate in racketeering, kidnapping and other moneymaking schemes popular with rival cartels.

10) El Chapo is said to have had 4 wives. One of them was a beauty queen .
