Shooting in Culiacan

The managing director of the newsgroup Grupo Editorial Noroeste Adrián López Ortiz was shot in Culiacán, Sinaloa, 'El Chapo' Guzman's hometown. This is not the first time López Ortiz, one of the state's leading journalists, has been attacked. He was shot in both legs. The attack ocurred around midnight when the Ortiz was returning home after a flight from Mexico City, on which Sinaloa Governor Mario Lopez Valdés was also onboard.

Adrián López Ortiz was attacked by armed men at a traffick light on Pedro Infante Boulevard. The assailants stole his car, his computer, his cell phone and his wallet before kicking him to the ground. They were about to flee, however, they turned back and shot him. The bullet pierced both legs, however, Ortiz is in a stable condition. According to local media, the attack was premeditated and was carefully planeed, involving at least two other vehicles.

Once Ortiz had been stopped, to young men of approximately twenty years of age and armed with guns forced him out of his car and pushed him to the ground. He was then kicked and beaten while they removed his valuables from his car. Once they had all of his things, the assailants made to leave the scene, however, they returned and shot him in the legs. The Noroeste newspaper has suffred a number of intimidation attacks which have increased ever since the capture of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán.
