Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto met today with the United Nations' Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon. The two spoke about ways of developing cooperation on issues of human rights, peace, security and an end to poverty. Peña Nieto thanked Ban Ki-moon for his visit and reiterated that Mexico's activity on a global level corresponds to his promise to make Mexico a counrtry with a global presence involved in all front os the international community.

Enrique Peña Nieto released a statemnt saying that the meeting centred around developing a multilateral agenda for development, human rights and maintainging peace and security across the nation. Ban Ki-moon, for his part, recognized Peña Nieto's efforts for encouraging disarmament and finding a peaceful solution to many of the conflicts in the country. However, Ki-moon also emphasized the necessity for improved development in an effort to "put an end to poverty" as well as further protection of human rights.

Ban Ki-moon highlighted Mexico's success in international conferences at ensuring advances in multilateral agendas, such as the Humanitarian Impact of Nuclear Arms which took place in Nayarit in February. The Secretary General emphasized his support for Mexico to host the the First Conference of States Against Arms Deals in 2015. Foreign Secretary José Antonio Meade and Subsecretary of Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights Juan Manuel Gómez Robledo also attended.
