Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto released a statement from France about the "deplorable" escape of 'El Chapo' Guzmán. Gobierno de México

Last Saturday, one of Mexico’s top drug lords, Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán Loera, best known for his worldwide infrastructure and being the DEAs most wanted man, has once again escaped prison. Guzmán reportedly escaped from his cell in a maximum-security prison through a tunnel dug from the shower as Mexican security officials reported on Sunday. Mr. Guzmán was captured in February of last year, in Mazatlán, Mexico; something President Enrique Peña Nieto was extremely proud of, claiming his government was working “to guarantee the safety and the execution of laws in our territory so we can achieve a Mexico at peace”.

The news, of course, came as a big blow for Peña who was on his way to France, accompanied by a scandalous 390 people. Which explains why the President released a statement from Paris. Needless to say, this infuriated Mexicans all over the world, and his statements didn’t do much to soothe the media frenzy. Peña began his speech explaining how his trip to the European country would benefit Mexico, before proceeding to comment on the shocking news.

“I trust that the Mexican Institutions in charge, specifically those in charge of public security, have the strength and determination to re-apprehend this criminal,” Peña continued. He continued to explain he’s commanded a profound investigation to find out if there were any public officials working in the maximum-security prison involved. “I’ve assigned the Chief of Justice to continue to keep the Mexican people informed of the actions the government is taking for the re-apprehension of this criminal,” the President said before going back to explaining the benefits of his trip for his country.
