UPDATE: Eva Longoria Not Cast In Telenovela: The ‘Dia De Los Inocentes’ Joke That Fooled You All

So it pays to be dating the president of Televisa! In an attempt to reconnect with her Latino roots and engage the Spanish speaking audience, Eva Longoria has signed an exclusive contract with Televisa, locking her for three telenovelas starting with “Cuna de Lobos,” where she will play the infamous Catalina Creel. The production finally came true after “Por Derecho De Sangre,” what was supposed to be the remake, proved to be a major flop after the pilot wasn’t selected, but the network now hopes that with Eva on board, “Cuna de Lobos” will step up to the original 80’s classic.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of this amazing project, because working in Spanish and connecting to that audience it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve already started taking Spanish lessons with a speech coach to perfect my accent and portray this role that María Rubio made immortal, and I couldn’t be any happier,” said Eva Longoria in a press conference announcing this new production. Not only is Eva being cast as the main character, who happens to be a villain, she will actually play William Levy’s mother. So that will be something we all want to see because we never expected to see the day when Longoria would look old.

William will play Alejandro, Catalina’s only child, since José Carlos is her stepson, from her husband’s previous marriage. It will be interesting to see the chemistry between the two, because you might remember Catalina's unnatural devotion to her only son. This caused her to commit a series of murders beginning with her own husband, Carlos, and to participate in the abduction of a child to ensure her son's inheritance. “This deal signifies a major turning point in the history of Televisa,” its president, Pepe Bastón added. “Having an international star like Eva Longoria be the protagonist in such an iconic telenovela is a pioneering endeavor, the first of many others yet to come.”

The rest of the cast will continue as it was from “Por Derecho De Sangre,” and includes Danna García, Rafael Amaya and Dominika Paleta. There’s still no word on the other two telenovelas Longoria has also signed to do, but a source who prefers to be kept anonymous told us that it’s most likely she will take on Verónica Castro’s famous role in “Rosa Salvaje” and that all roads lead to a “La Usurpadora” remake with Eva as Paola and Paulina Bracho.

More on the “Día de los Inocentes:” Derived from a story in the Bible, where King Herod executed innocent children to kill Jesus, “Innocent’s Day” since has transformed in Catholic regions like Hispanic America, Spain And Phillippines, as a date of celebration and pranks, to celebrate that Jesus escaped the hands of King Herod.
