When George Zimmerman, who was dismissed of homicide and hate crimes charges after killing unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin in 2012, got shot at today he didn’t find a lot of fans on Twitter. As we reported earlier today, Zimmerman was not actually hit by a bullet shot through his right passenger door. Reportedly suffering minor injuries by shattering glass, Zimmerman walked away unscathed. It’s unclear what precipitated the incident and to what degree he provoked the confrontation, but as Zimmerman trended on Twitter, many seemed unconcerned for his welfare.

A slew of vines and other short videos displayed digital victory dances as the Floridian’s misfortune. Some even lamented learning that he had merely been injured by glass. Think that these reactions are callous? Well, there were tweets to answer that criticism as well. One user argued that after so many people supported Zimmerman during the Trayvon trial, he should be allowed to make jokes. Others articulated with videos their uncontrollable and possibly inexplicable positive reaction to hearing about the shooting. At the heart of those comments seemed to lie a satisfaction in “karma,” or divine balance in the universe.
