Mexico has issued an official response to the crisis of unaccompanied migrant children, issuing a a public policy which includes improving infrastructure and ensuring health and care services, according to Foreign Minister Jose Antonio Meade. However, Meade acknowledged that at the moment there will be no change in the treatment of refugee claims. Each of them will continue to be evaluated individually. In meeting with the media, the Foreign Secretary reiterated that "each case is being reviewed with specific attention, this is not a generic approach."

Mexico has specific regulations to make a careful assessment of each refugee request, which it utilizes to check the merits of each request individually to provide the right treatement, the chancellor insisted. Notwithstanding, Mexico has ratified the arrangement to work together with other countries in the region to address the issue. "We have provided a comprehensive response to the phenomenon which maintains a strong focus on the humanitarian concern, for the integrity of the migrant child," he said, noting that it has strengthened the physical and humanitarian infrastructure in the country.

There is a renewed commitment to cooperation and regional efforts to combat trafficking and to share consular experiences with Central America and the United Statesin order to strengthen consular presence. Secretary Meade also highligthed that this week, President Enrique Peña Nieto announced a comprehensive response by the government to migration on the southern border. Furthermore, Meade emphasized an increased recognition of the specific commitment to unaccompanied migrant children, including shelter and health care.
