U.S. President Barack Obama has asked Congress to provide new funding of 3.7 billion dollars to deal with the influx of children arriving alone at the border, while seeking to give more authority to the Government to speed up thedeportation of minors. According to the New York Times, a White House official confirmed that the president on sent a letter informing Congress of his decision to seek new resources for what he has called “an urgent humanitarian situation.”Mr. Obama urged them to “act expeditiously” on his request.

However, President Obama's request has ignited fierce debate in Congress as many Republicans are fearful the money will not be used to tighten border security. “Let’s remember, this administration went around for years saying the border has never been more secure than it is now,” said Senator Marco Rubio of Florida. “I think that’s been exposed as a fallacy over the last three weeks. “The president caused this self-inflicted crisis on the border by refusing to enforce the law,” said John Carter (R-Texas) “And now he is requesting a $3.7 billion bailout from the taxpayers to rectify his mistakes.”

Yesterday, the Obama administration reiterated that most undocumented unaccompanied children detained by Border Patrol on the U.S border with Mexico so far in 2014, will be deported. President Obama asked Central American parents in a television interview to stop sending their children to the United States. "If they come, we will send them back and, more importantly, they might not even make it" said Obama. The US-Mexico border has recently seen an influx of more than 52,000 child migrants.
