Television personality Joan Rivers is notorious for pushing the envelope when it comes to her jokes and her words have earned her criticism, yet again. This time Rivers is being asked to apologize for the jokes she made against the Cleveland kidnapping victims of Ariel Castro.

While discussing her new reality show with her daughters on NBC's "Today" show, Rivers brought up the victims while complaining about the living conditions at her daughter's home in the guest bedroom. "Those woman in the basement in Cleveland had more space," said Rivers.

Following her comments, the attorneys of two of the victims has called for Rivers to apologize, calling the comments "a new low" after the women had to go through media attention. Rivers; however, has made it clear that she has no intention of apologizing.

"I know what those girls went through," said Rivers to Cleveland newspaper The Plain Dealer, when asked for a statement. "It was a little, stupid joke. There is nothing to apologize for. I made a joke. That’s what I do. Calm down."

Rivers also told TMZ that "they got to live rent free for more than a decade." While defending herself, Rivers added: "One of them has a book deal. Neither are in a psych ward. They're ok. I bet you within 3 years one of them will be on Dancing with the Stars."

For a quick recap: Castro held three women hostage -- Amanda Berry, Michelle Knight, and Gina DeJesus -- at his residence since their individual abductions from 2002 and 2004. He was charged with three counts of kidnapping and rape of his three victims, and one count of kidnapping of his daughter. While recalling their time in Castro's basement, the women revealed that they were only let outside twice and were initially kept bound with ropes and chains in the cellar.
