the last naruto character kage
"The Last: Naruto The Movie" will unveil a new character. Anime News Network / Shonen Jump

Yesterday, we reported that Naruto manga creator Masashi Kishimoto teased a mysterious new character that would appear in "The Last: Naruto the Movie, which arrives in theaters on Dec. 6, 2014 in Japan. Given the crescent moon on his back, I suggested that the mysterious new character could be the kage of Getsugakure. I was wrong, as the latest newsletter reports that the movie will feature a "final decisive battle between Naruto and the one with the bloodline of the Sage of the Six Paths." On Wednesday morning, Anime News Network revealed that the new character is Toneri Otsutsuki, a man of the Otsutsuki lineage. So what does that mean?

The crescent moon on the character's back is still the biggest indication of what Toneri Otsutsuki is all about. According to reports, the Sage of Six Paths descendant possesses a unique interstellar ability to control the movement of the moon! Weekly Shonen Jump revealed a little more of what exactly Toneri Otsutsuki is about in a very interesting plot summary for the upcoming "The Last: Naruto the Movie":

"The moon has begun moving closer to Earth! As it is, the moon will crumble and meteorites will rain down on Earth's surface," wrote Shonen Jump. "As the last days of Earth approach, Hanabi Hyūga is abducted by a mysterious man in Konoha, and Naruto, Sakura, Sai, Shikamaru, and Hinata set off on a rescue mission! Can Naruto and the others overcome this crisis?"

According to Anime News Network, Jun Fukuyama ("Metal Gear Solid 4," "SD Gundam G Generation Spirits") will play the voice of Toneri Otsutsuki. What's more, Gaara, Choji, Ten Ten, Rock Lee, Temari, and more are confirmed in the upcoming "The Last: Naruto the Movie" as well. "The Last: Naruto The Movie" release date is Dec. 6, 2014 at Japanese theaters. Stay tuned as we learn more in the days ahead.
