Gabe Corredor, founder and CEO of Artissano.com. Artissano.com

In continuing our weekly feature 'Latinos In The US', Latin Times had the pleasure to speak with the founder and CEO of Artissano.com Gabe Corredor. Artissano serves as a tremendous way for rising fashion designers to grow their individual products through an outlet that is not always available in a competitive field. With a strong passion for fashion, Gabe Corredor created a source that allows some of the most creative designers to form their personal brands by building a unique location and effective marketing strategy to help these products grow in the United States. Thanks to hard work and dedication, Gabe Corredor's fashion outlet serves as a true example of what happens when you're dedicated to a task and passionate about your work.

The son of a Colombian father and Puerto Rican mother – who met while studying and teaching at New York University - Gabe was born in Binghamton, New York but moved to Puerto Rico at the age of two. Remaining in his mother's native country for three years, Gabe and his family moved to the United States when he was five. Settling in New Jersey, the fashion guru was able to grow as a young man and student, developing a passion for economics and finance during his high school years. Eventually accepted into Cornell University, Gabe knew his love in the world of economics would serve him well and decided to remain on track, with multiple opportunities coming his way. Holding previous positions with Barclays Capital and Lehman Brothers, Gabe Corredor's education had a major impact on his traveled path.

“In high school and college I grew an affinity towards economics and finance and this turned me on to working in the finance field with a particular focus on investment banking,” Gabe Corredor said regarding his career path. “In addition, the recruiting at Cornell University was heavily slanted towards banking/consulting, particularly if you were a business major.”

With a strong passion for travel as well, Gabe Corredor attributes the success and development of Artisaano.com to experiences that began at an early age. A person who enjoys finding low profile brands and helping them grow, Gabe says that the stories that come along with these products give even more meaning to his work.

“One of my greatest passions is traveling and I’ve been fortunate to have been able to travel from a very early age,” he said. “Through traveling, I would come across amazing accessories that were unique, exhibited high quality and were on-trend. The challenge for designers creating these products is that they couldn’t find efficient ways to market their products in the U.S. That’s where Artissano comes in. We curate contemporary fashion accessories from around the world to the U.S. Consumer. We launched in the early part of the summer and the reception from our customers around our unique products has been exhilarating.

“I like to find under-the-radar brands that come with a story, and frankly, I like sharing the story that comes along with it,” he continued. “Be it a briefcase from San Telmo, Buenos Aires or a wallet from Sicily—even a scarf from Morocco, these products comes with great stories and unique designers. I always loved that part of traveling and in a sense was a precursor to the Artissano story.”

Though travel and fashion serve as tremendous passions, Gabe Corredor remains up-to-date on many hot-button issues taking place in the United States. With immigration reform holding a high level of importance, Gabe notes that the concept of 'countries' and geographic borders may not be relevant moving forward.

“I believe human capital, like financial capital, should be fungible throughout the world,” Corredor said. “We need to get away from the concept of 'countries'. In reality we live in a world of corporations, and geographic borders I think are an outdated concept at this point.”

It surely was a pleasure to speak with a complete gentleman who continues to help a young fashion outlet grow. With hard work and a dedicated passion for his work, Gabe Corredor serves as yet another tremendous success story. With everything from belts to watches, Artissano truly is a great way to get your hands on truly unique products.
