Gerardo Ortiz’s video “Fuiste Mía” made the headlines earlier this week after it was reported that online petitions were asking for the clip to be taken down from social media and other websites for promoting femicide.

In the words of petitioner Jovana Espinosa, “it is inconceivable that ‘artistic expressions’ can promote femicide such as the case of Gerardo Ortiz’s music video, which shows a man murdering two people, including his lover, over an affair.”

The lover is known in the real world as Tracy Saenz, a Mexican actress and model, who is not at all mad about the popularity she’s gained in the past few days. According to TVnotas, Tracy’s social media fan base increased in large numbers since the day of the report, leaving her with 31.1K followers on Twitter and almost a million on Instagram.

Ok. She is nowhere near Kim Kardashian’s numbers yet, but her looks may be able to take care of that. Saenz has taken notice of the media movement her “victim” role has created and is taking advantage of her five minutes of fame hoping that it will take her career to the next step.

Tracy, Gerardo, and the production film involved in the making of this video clip have yet to publicly address the controversy. However, Change.org informed on Friday that the petition to eliminate the material from all websites has gathered 5, 295 signatures so far.

On Wednesday, the Secretary of the Interior, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong, asked Conavim (Comisión Nacional para Prevenir y Erradicar la Violencia contra las Mujeres) to take action and implement measures that help eradicate the use of stereotypes in the media, particularly those who glamorize violence against women.
