The 2014 Met Gala is tonight and A-list celebrities are already getting ready to show off their best gowns. Michelle Obama already started the celebration with the ribbon cutting of the new Anna Wintour Costume Center opening at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The First Lady of the United States knows a little thing here and there about fashion and officially unveiled the $40 million center named after the editor of Vogue magazine in a stunning Naeem Khan floral dress. The yearly benefit gala has been organized by Wintour who has helped raise more than $125 million for the fashion wing, which now sports her name. "I'm so impressed by Anna's contributions not just to fashion but to this great museum. This center is for anyone who cares about fashion and how it impacts our culture and our history," the FLOTUS said during her speech.
The Anna Wintour Costume Center will open a new exhibit to the public this week featuring work from Charles James. Celebrities that attended the event this morning were Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Donatella Versace, Carolina Herrera, Tory Burch, Marc Jacobs, Victoria Beckham, Donna Karan, Zac Posen, Ralph Lauren, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Reed Krakoff and Prabal Gurung. The show titled "Charles James: Beyond Fashion" recreates some of the designers best looks with one made of thousands of fresh flowers in the atrium of the museum which all guests will be greeted with. According to The Cut, some of the pieces to look out for include Ribbon Gown, made from rainbow-colored ribbons, and the Clover Gown, with its distinctive four-sided skirt.
Big names are expected to show up to the gala tonight in their best gowns and tuxes. The fashion elite will be dressed in accordance to tonight's theme which is "White Tie and Diamonds."
