Claire Danes stars in the Showtime series, "Homeland." Showtime

The Showtime series "Homeland" is ending Season 6 this weekend, but a new version of the hit show is in the works at Televisa and Univision. Based on the Israeli format of "Prisoners of War," distributed by Keshet International, the Latin version is to unite the a Mexican, Hispanic and Colombian network. "We are hoping to start the production soon", Kelly Wright, Head of Latin America at Keshet International, told todotvnews. "We are going ahead with a Colombian partner that we cannot announce yet. Now that Univision and Televisa are closer than ever, it makes sense to start the realization of the Spanish version of 'Prisoners of War.'"

The Latin version of "Homeland" or "Prisoners of War" will surely undergo an adaptation and be completely different from the two previous versions. Latin audiences are demanding new type of programming and with narco-telenovelas like "El Señor De Los Cielos" and "El Chema" continuing to be ratings hit, the shift will continue to go in that direction. Univision is currently airing "La Piloto" in primetime, in the same time slot that Telemundo established itself as the narco-series king when they first aired "La Reina Del Sur." Univision took a bit to react to the market shift, and it's playing catch-up, trying to take away ratings from their fierce competition.

Last year, Univision lined up with Netflix to co-produce a series based on the life of "El Chapo." The drama is set to premiere later this month and air on Sunday nights. With the Latin version of "Homeland", we can be sure that it will tackle the war on drugs.
