New Nintendo 3DS

Bad news for fans of importing games as it turns out the new Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL will indeed be region locked. The company confirmed the news to IGN. A Nintendo representative told the website that this 3DS console will be in the exact same situation as the previous handhelds saying, "the situation will be exactly the same as for the current family of Nintendo 3DS systems."

Unfortunately this is not a surprise as Nintendo's last couple of consoles have all been region locked. The company started this trend in 2009 with its DSi handheld console.

The New Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL were announced on Aug. 29 during a Japan only Nintendo Direct. The new console features a new analog control stick, faster computing power, two new buttons plus Amiibo support and changeable cover plates for the 3DS.

The handheld will launch next month in Japan on Oct. 11. There is no official U.S.. or European release dates as of now.
