New Nintendo 3DS
New Nintendo 3DS XL. Nintendo

During Nintendo's first Direct Broadcast of the year the company announced a plethora of upcoming Wii U and 3DS titles. This will be a huge year for Nintendo as gamers will see exciting releases like "Xenoblade Chronicles X," a new "Fire Emblem" title for the 3DS and much more. However, the biggest news came in the form of new hardware. The company revealed that the New Nintendo 3DS XL will finally arrive in the U.S.. soon.

The system was released in Japan on Oct. 11 last year, in Australia and New Zealand on Nov. 21, Jan. 6 in Europe in a special Club Nintendo-exclusive "Ambassador Edition" and will arrive in the west Feb. 13. The hardware and software on the New Nintendo 3DS XL has gotten a much needed upgrade including the 3D capabilities, the camera, the devices CPU performance and much more. Check out these top 8 reasons you should upgrade to the New Nintendo 3DS XL when it launches in the west.

  • Face-Tracking 3D - The face-tracking feature uses the system’s inner cameras to adjust images based on your viewing angle, so you can enjoy total immersion in your games. So now if for some reason you are viewing your 3DS at a weird angle and you have the 3D feature on you'll be able to see everything crisp and clear.
  • New Buttons - The most obvious newly added button is the C Stick which sits at the top right to of the console. The idea is to have another stick to help enhance controls. So far we've seen it used to maneuver smash attacks with ease in "Super Smash Bros." 3DS and view your surroundings in games like "Monster Hunter 4." There are two more new buttons added to the New 3DS XL dubbed the ZL and ZR buttons. These give the users more options in the games and lets you quickly switch between tabs when web browsing.
  • Amiibo, NFC Support - The New 3DS XL adds support for the Amiibo characters from Nintendo. Gamers can get bonus items and content, customize your character, and more when you use amiibo figures (like Mario!) with amiibo-compatible games.
  • Improved CPU - This console is definitely faster than its predecessors and that is indeed a plus. With a faster CPU gamers can look forward to faster loading times within games plus faster download times. Many games will also play and look much better than before.

The New Nintendo 3DS XL will launch with two awesome console bundles! Check them out below:

  • The first is the Majora's Mask Edition! Celebrate the updated version of "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask" with a golden system featuring imagery from the game. Unfortunately the game will be sold separately but the console itself is worth considering. It will release Feb. 13 for $199.99
  • The second bundle is the "Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate" Bundle. The edition comes with a customized silver, navy and black console emblazoned with art inspired by the game. "Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate" will come pre-installed on the console and will go for $229.99.

Another reason to purchase a New Nintendo 3DS XL is the exclusive games and features.

  • "Xenoblade Chronicle 3D" is a remake of the original "Xenoblade" Wii game and is an exclusive title for New Nintendo 3DS XL. It is most likely due to the CPU upgrade in the console. It will release April 2015.
  • While "Code Name S.T.E.A.M." is not an exclusive title for the New Nintendo 3DS XL, there is a feature that will only be available for gamers with the new hardware. Users will be able to add "Fire Emblem" characters to the title through their Amiibo's. That's right, Marth, Robin, Ike and Lucina can join the battle in "Code Name: S.T.E.A.M." The title will launch a month after the new 3DS on March 13.
