Paraguayan Couple Get Married After 80 Years: Jose Manuel Riella, 103, And Martina Lopez, 99, Finally Say Vows

José Manuel Riella and his new bride Martina López have just tied the knot after 80 years together. The pair fell in love about six years before the outbreak of World War II. Married in a civil union in 1933, López tells the BBC that it feels good to finally have their union blessed by a priest. The wedding took place in front of the couple's home in Santa Rosa. In attendance were López and Riella's eight children, 50 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

Now age 103 and using a wheel chair to get around, Jose Manuel Riella vowed to love his wife, 99-year-old Lopez, for the rest of his days. Jose was dressed in a sharp black suit and his bride wore a long white wedding gown. Dozens of family members turned out to see the couple wed. The ceremony was presided over by a Catholic priest who the Daily Mail quotes as saying the couple is the oldest newlyweds he had ever married.

Following the exchange of vows the family had a party to celebrate a union that has lasted 80 years. Just about 50 years into their relationship, the couple entered into a civil union but they also wanted a religious service. Over 30 years had passed since the couple's civil union and now the pair is relieved to finally have a religious blessing on their marriage.
