Nominees for the 40th annual People's Choice Awards were announced Tuesday at The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills, Calif., by Beth Behrs and Kat Dennings, stars of CBS' "2 Broke Girls." The awards feature an astonishing 58 categories, from Favorite Movie to Favorite TV Bromance, and it looks like it's set to be a fantastic night for TV, film and music fans everywhere. Behrs and Dennings are also set for hosting the actual award show January 8, 2014, at 9 p.m. on CBS, with the L.A. Times calling them "the new Amy and Tina," referencing Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, two of the most respected female comedians in the business, who have been making headlines for their hilarious ways of hosting award shows and have been hired to host the Golden Globes for the following two years.
"Glee" leads the nominations with eight in the TV Category. Katy Perry and Sandra Bullock followed, scoring five nominations each. Katy in music and Sandra in the movie category. Even Oprah Winfrey is up for an award for her work in "Lee Daniels' The Butler." "Dancing With the Stars" is nominated too and so are Ross Matthews, Britney Spears and "Game of Thrones." Another notable nominee is Robin Williams. He won his first People's Choice Award in 1979 for favorite actor in a new TV series for "Mork & Mindy," and now he's competing in the same category again 34 years later for his role on "The Crazy Ones."
However, here at Latin Times we're overly excited about Eugenio Derbez's nomination. His Spanglish film "Instructions Not Included," about an Acapulco playboy who has to reform his ways after a former fling leaves a baby on his doorstep, was nominated for "Favorite Comedic Movie" against "Grown Ups 2," "The Hangover Part III," "The Heat" and "We're the Millers." Eugenio rose to fame in America after his movie became the biggest opening ever for a Spanish-language film in the United States, grossing $10 million in its opening weekend. Before his crossover to the American market, he was already a big name in Latin America for his acting, producing and directing. Congrats to Eugenio Derbez, and we wish you the best of luck!
